Large-Size Flaring Tools: Check Size Coverage Before Ordering CT-103
Check the missing sizes before adding another flaring tool
For a distributor, adding a large-size tool is useful only if it covers tubing that the existing range does not. A headline such as “up to 1-1/8 inch” hides the included openings. Use an explicit coverage list before asking for prices or approving an assortment.
A catalog-based coverage example
The Torchmark catalog lists CT-103A for 7/8, 1 and 1-1/8 inch, and CT-103M for 22, 25 and 28 mm. Both are listed as 45-degree flaring tools. The A and M suffixes refer to different size configurations; do not treat the lists as interchangeable.
The smaller CT-190A configuration lists 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, 1/2 and 5/8 inch. Pairing CT-190A with CT-103A therefore still leaves 3/4 inch absent from those two catalog lists. This is an assortment gap to resolve before advertising broad size coverage, not a reason to assume that a nearby opening can be used.
Build a coverage sheet from your customers' actual requirements
- List each requested tube outside diameter separately, retaining its original inch or metric unit.
- Record tube material, wall thickness and the specified fitting/flare requirements alongside each size.
- Mark which model explicitly lists each diameter. Leave unconfirmed entries blank rather than rounding to a nearby metric or inch size.
- Request written confirmation for remaining gaps and the supplied components.
- Approve packaging labels against the final size list so the carton or retail insert does not promise an unverified range.
Use sample checks to resolve application questions
Diameter coverage is only one selection criterion. A 45-degree label alone does not confirm suitability for every tubing material, wall thickness or double-flare requirement. Ask the supplier to confirm the intended application. Evaluate the identified sample using the supplied instructions and agreed acceptance criteria; keep the result separate from any untested lifetime or certification claim.
Keep packing and order allocation separate
For CT-103A / CT-103M, the catalog lists 10 pieces per case and a carton size of 31.5 × 17 × 14.5 cm. Use those figures for preliminary planning only until the supplied configuration and packaging are confirmed. List each model suffix and quantity on separate order lines, especially when mixing small- and large-size tools.
